The Path Forward Returnship at Seeq is a 16-week paid program for experienced professionals returning to the workforce after taking time off for caregiving. The program is open to women and men who have at least 5 years of professional experience and have been out of the paid workforce for at least two years to focus on caring for a child or other dependent. We have partnered with Path Forward, a nonprofit organization on a mission to empower people who’ve been focused on caregiving transition back to the paid workforce. Seeq makes data analytics software for a big market that’s often overlooked by tech companies: industrial process data. Think pharmaceutical manufacturers, wind farms, and energy companies with tons of equipment and sensors. Our software engineers tackle hard problems in streaming calculation, storage, and distributed computing, leveraging the latest features in Java 11, Kotlin, and PostgreSQL. Our company was founded 100% remote and we're proud of it. We were good at remote long before COVID and will continue to be remote when COVID is a distant memory. You can work anywhere in a compatible time zone (our core hours are 8am-12pm Pacific). We use a variety of collaboration tools, like Zoom, Slack, and our homegrown Qube Virtual Office, which make us feel like we're in the same building together. We use agile tenets to iterate on both our product and development processes. We have a wonderful team of kind-hearted, talented engineers that love to collaborate, teach each other new tricks, and build products that exceed our customers’ expectations. Our technology stack is largely JVM languages (Java, Kotlin) on the backend with some C#/.NET, and TypeScript / React on the frontend. The core of our product is a full-featured calculation engine that can perform complex math and execute machine learning algorithms on streaming time series data.   JOB DESCRIPTION If you work on the back-end, you’ll work with databases (Postgres, Cassandra), distributed computing (Spark, Kafka) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCE). If you work on the front-end, you’ll build beautiful single-page applications (React, D3.js, and Bootstrap). You’ll hunt down and squash bugs and put automated tests in place to prevent a new infestation. Not only will you participate in teammates’ designs and code reviews, but you'll design and implement your own features along with their automated tests. As an Agile team member, you’ll participate in daily stand ups, demos, and regular retrospectives and constantly be looking for ways to improve our process. Each Returnship employee will have a mentor and work with one of the following squads within the larger engineering team. Indicate squad(s) of interest in your cover letter. Struct: Responsible for the cloud infrastructure that powers our software as a service offering (think AWS, Azure, containers, serverless, Kubernetes) and the infrastructure for development and deployment of our product (think continuous integration and developer tools). Calc Engine: Responsible for the calculation engine, a custom language for expressing analyses of time series data and its evaluation engine. Squad members are passionate about execution correctness, efficiency, math, and language design. Extensibility: Responsible for authentication, connectors to outside datasources, export, SDKs, Jupyter integration, and Seeq Workbench plugins. These technologies enable user-specific workflows and custom visualizations. Agility: Responsible for meeting emerging customer needs. Currently focused on full stack work enabling customer creation of customized dashboards, reports, scorecards, tables, and associated data visualizations.   SKILLS REQUIREMENTS You have 5 or more years of previous software experience, but have spent time away from your career for caregiving. You're good at finding the best tool to solve a problem without getting caught up in whether it's the new hip thing. You hate bugs, are eager to squash them, and work to prevent them from infesting your code as you design and implement new features. A well-written API brings you joy. You have a knowledge of the software development lifecycle and want to join a company that emphasizes agility and creativity. You’re disciplined with a high attention to detail. You learn things quickly and prefer a work environment that embraces and capitalizes on change. You listen really well, and you know how to make your ideas be heard without turning people off. You have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent relevant experience. You know how to balance life work, and you don’t want a job that forces you to choose between them.
